Caring for America
Our Caring for America
project this month will
be donations to the Cobb
County Drug Treatment
Court. Opened December
2002, the Drug Treatment
Court handles
non-violent felony
substance abuse cases
through intensive
supervision, drug
treatment and
rehabilitation. The
program is currently
serving 109 participants
that attend weekly court
sessions, daily
rehabilitative
treatment, and frequent
random drug testing
while maintaining full
time employment or
school attendance.
Sixteen participants
have successfully
completed the program.
The average cost of
housing an inmate at the
Cobb County Jail is $43
per day. However, the
cost of participating in
the Cobb County Drug
Treatment Court is only
$2,400 for 18 months and
the participant is
expected to pay most or
the entire amount. Drug
Treatment Court has
proven to be an
extremely effective and
efficient alternative to
incarceration and
affords the participants
the opportunity to get
the treatment they need
as opposed to spending
time in jail.
We are asking for
donations such as movie
tickets, restaurant gift
cards, tickets to
sporting events,
concerts, etc. that will
be given to participants
as a reward for
complying with the
guidelines of the
program. If you have
any questions regarding
this, please contact
Babe Atkins-Byrne @
(770) 528-1837 or
babeatkinsbyrne@yahoo.com.
