President’s Corner
While reading over legislation that passed from this 2006 legislative session, our Cobb County legislatures are really molding our state with some good legislation and some not so good legislation. Regardless, I believe that we must remember to stay involved. If we get complacent we will start to lose many of our rights and freedoms that we have grown accustomed. As I previously mentioned at the luncheon, we had sent out 250 e-mails to get a response as to how our members felt on a variety of woman’s issues that would help the legislators to know where we stood. But unfortunately, we only received 6 responses back, and one of them was mine. In this election year, if we don’t stand up for what we believe we will start to lose the seats we have fought so hard to acquire. We have had the luxury of being the majority party for so past few years and we can’t forget how we got here and why.
Thankfully our legislators listened to us about the eminent domain subject, and our State was the first to actually pass legislation on illegal immigration. I think most of us would have liked to see yet stricter guidelines. And, we still have the fight on the Federal level. I’m still worried our Republicans give in to quickly to the other side in Washington. We are far to appeasing to the Democrats even when we are in power.
I’m proud that are own Tom Price and Phil Gingrey are working so hard for us on immigration, but I truly believe they listen to their constituents and try to work for us. We must continue the diligence, because if our legislators don’t hear from us they don’t know how we feel. So please continue to support them by helping with their upcoming campaigns, so as to not lose ground on the federal level and at our local levels.
This month we are lucky to have Vernadette Broyles coming to speak to us. She is an enthusiastic and very bright attorney that I had the pleasure of hearing several years ago at a GFRW board meeting. She will be shedding some light on the new face of the Supreme Court. It will be interesting to hear what she has to say. Please come out and support us and please start getting geared up for this year now!

Caring for America
Celebrate Life International (CLI) exists for one reason and one reason only--to make a difference in the lives of young people. Our team has a passion to make a positive difference in the lives of kids who are in trouble. CLI is dedicated to transforming at-risk kids into responsible citizens by building their character based on practical leadership skills and universal ethical principles.
Teach One to Lead One® is a philosophy that was born out of the need to help young people turn away from destructive choices and into positive habits which will help them grow into responsible citizens. The philosophy is founded on three crucial elements: universal principles taught to young people in the context of healthy relationships between children and adult mentors with a spirit of adventure and celebration.
